Are you a keen globetrotter? If so, you are bound to be aware that journeys seldom go exactly to plan. Unforeseen circumstances can turn out to be both positive and negative. Unfortunately, the negative events are often synonymous with extra costs. For example, a flight delay or theft. Travel insurance offers peace of mind. You can take this out separately, but it's possible that you already have free travel insurance as an extra on your credit card. Find out all the details here.

Travel insurance: more than just nice to have

Those with an adventurous and enterprising mindset often think that nothing will happen to them when they are travelling. After all, you are careful and alert to the potential risks. Nothing is further from the truth, because unfortunately you are not in control of most elements. Nobody is immune to theft, flight delays, etc. If you really want to head off on your travels with true peace of mind, then you should take out travel insurance. This means you are covered against the most serious financial risks associated with travel at home or abroad, from theft to loss of baggage.

Free travel insurance with KBC Platinum Credit Card

This insurance covers you against cancellation and/or early-return costs relating to any personal trips that you pay for using a KBC means of payment. You are covered for up to 10 000 euros per claim. The conditions are shown below.

Travel cancellation insurance

Compensation

 

  • A maximum of 10 000 euros per claim, regardless of the number of credit cards and/or accounts in the family
  • You don't pay any deductible
Main conditions
  • The trip includes at least one overnight stay
  • Your entire trip must be paid for using a KBC means of payment
  • You must have been in possession of your KBC Platinum Credit Card at all times between the time when the trip was booked until it was cancelled
  • Only private travel is covered
Main exclusions
  • Claims resulting from excessive use of alcohol, medication or drugs, which were not prescribed by a doctor
  • Cancellations or interruptions due to medical complaints or injuries

Additional expense for flight delays & missed connections insurance

This insurance covers you for expenses incurred for food and drink or additional overnight accommodation not paid for by the carrier if your journey experiences more than four hours' delay, e.g. due to cancellation or delay of confirmed transport arrangements, boarding being declined due to overbooking or for any other insured cause. The insurance is valid for travel to a foreign destination.

Additional expense for flight delays & missed connections insurance

Compensation
  • A maximum of 150 euros per insured person and a maximum of 1 500 euros for the entire group travelling together (amounts for the total journey there and back, regardless of the number of KBC credit cards and accounts in the family)
Main conditions
  • The trip itself must have been paid for with a KBC means of payment
  • The necessary expenses must have been paid for using your KBC Platinum Credit Card

 

Main exclusions

The policy does not apply

  • if the delay was due to a protest, strike or trade union action that was already underway or had been announced at least 24 hours prior to the start of the trip
  • if equivalent alternative transport was available
  • for charter flights

Insurance for urgent purchases required as a result of delayed baggage

This cover reimburses you for outlays on urgent purchases of necessary replacement clothing and toiletry articles not paid for by the carrier and required due to a delay in the delivery of your baggage.

The insurance is valid for travel to a foreign destination.

Compensation
  • Baggage more than 48 hours late: up to 750 euros for the entire group travelling together
  • Baggage more than 4 hours late: up to 250 euros for the entire group travelling together
Main conditions
  • The trip must have been paid for by you with a KBC means of payment
  • The urgent expenses must have been paid for using your KBC Platinum Credit Card
Main exclusions

The policy does not apply

  • if the baggage has not been retrieved for charter flights
  • for baggage that was not transferred to the responsibility of the carrier upon departure or that was checked in too late

Hire car deductible insurance

Are you going on a trip and renting a car in a foreign country?

If so, this insurance will pay you back for the deductible charged by the car insurance company of the rental agency to you for any damage to a rented vehicle during the rental period.

Hire car deductible insurance

Compensation
  • At least 100 euros and a maximum of 2 500 euros per calendar year for each account to which the credit card is linked

Main conditions

  • The vehicle must be rented for private purposes for a maximum of 30 days
  • The rental is a passenger car, motorhome, van or light goods vehicle, or an off-road vehicle (max 3.5 tons)
  • The deductible is at least 100 euros
  • The rental price of the vehicle must have been paid for by you using the KBC Platinum Credit Card
Main exclusions

The policy does not apply

  • if negative travel advice applies to the final destination at the start of the trip
  • if you rent more than one vehicle at the same time
  • to trailers
