VIP option

Our standard travel insurance policy offers extensive and generous cover.

If you choose the VIP option, you extend the policy to include:

  • doubled insured sums
  • doubled compensation limits

without needing to increase the deductible.

You can take out the VIP option in KBC Mobile, KBC Touch, or with your trusted KBC adviser.

What cover can you take out?

Business travel option

Personal assistance insurance covers both your private and business travel, while the other types of cover under the insurance relate solely to your private travel. To extend all the cover under this policy to include business travel, choose the ‘business travel’ option.

'Business travel' is any travel undertaken for business purposes or the performance of a profession.

Personal assistance cover

What is it?

Personal assistance cover is primarily for health issues that occur during travel, either through illness or accidents. If you have to return home due to a particular event, this is also covered.

What is insured?

  • llness and accidents and the consequences thereof, such as repatriation, hospitalisation and a forced extended stay
  • Medical expenses incurred outside Belgium are reimbursed up to 500,000 euros per insured person
  • If you choose the VIP option, the sums insured will be doubled

What is not insured?

  • Complications occurring after the second trimester of pregnancy, and childbirth expenses
  • Complications related to, or worsening of, an existing illness if you have not followed the treatment prescribed
  • Participation in the paid or profitable practice of sports, including training
  • Participation in extreme outdoor activities,  i.e. outdoor activities where the external conditions or level of difficulty involved pose a potential danger to the insured person’s life. Examples include base jumping, heli-skiing and wreck diving

Additional information

  • You can count on rapid, professional assistance, 24/7
  • The personal accident cover is valid worldwide, regardless of the form of transport used
  • We will refund any communication expenses you incur abroad at our request, along with any fees charged to you when we phone you at your destination

Cancellation cover

What is it?

Cancellation cover insures you in cases where you have to cancel a trip unexpectedly. It compensates you for the fees you cannot recover or have to incur if this happens, or if you have to return home prematurely.

What is insured?

The following events qualify as valid reasons for cancelling your trip or returning home prematurely

  • Health-related reasons, such as illness, an accident or death
  • Studies and work, such as exam resits or redundancy
  • Government and travel formalities such as a call for jury duty or a travel warning or travel alert issued by the Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs after the trip was booked
  • A missed aeroplane, boat or train: unexpected delay of the booked transport by at least 48 hours, etc.

What is not insured?

  • Events you were already aware of before you booked the trip or took out the insurance that mean that the cancellation cannot be considered unexpected
  • Complications related to, or worsening of, an existing illness that can be regarded as a normal part of the illness, which were known when the trip was booked

Additional information

  • It is impossible to list all the situations for which a cancellation might be justified. We therefore offer you additional peace of mind by accepting any event not specified that is a force of nature completely beyond your control. If you choose this option, you will be expected to contribute 25% of the insured expenses.
  • We provide cover up to 12,500 euros per trip for all of the insured persons combined. If you choose the VIP option, the sums insured will be doubled.
  • This cover is valid for travel all over the world.

Luggage cover

What is it?

Luggage cover is a form of non-life insurance against theft of or damage to your luggage, or loss of your luggage by the transport company.

What is insured?

The following events are covered if they occur during your trip

  • Theft involving violence, threats or a break-in from a vehicle, the place where you are staying or your person
  • Damage or destruction caused by a sudden and unexpected event, such as a collision
  • Failure by the transport company to deliver your luggage or luggage it delivers damaged

Your luggage and any items you rent or use free of charge while on your trip will be covered up to 1,500 euros per insured person. If you choose the VIP option, the sums insured will be doubled.

What is not insured?

  • Damage caused solely by use
  • Damage caused by cleaning, processing or repair
  • Damage you cause intentionally
  • Damage caused by the paid or profitable practice of sports, including training for such sports

Additional information

  • We cover the expenses incurred to replace credit or payment cards, ski passes, visas, passports and other travel documents
  • We will subtract a deductible of 100 euros per claim from the compensation you receive
  • Additionally, if your luggage is not delivered to your foreign travel destination within four hours of your arrival, we will reimburse up to 250 euros per insured person for expenses related to the emergency purchase of substitute clothing and personal care items

Extra-protection travel accident cover

What is it?

Extra-protection travel accident cover insures you for expenses you incur due to an accident during your trip.

What is insured?

If you have an accident during your trip, we will pay the following

  • Compensation in the event of permanent disability
  • Compensation in the event of death

The maximum compensation in the event of permanent disability is 100,000 euros. The compensation in the event of death is 10,000 euros. We will also reimburse up to 10,000 euros for the funeral expenses actually incurred.

If you choose the VIP option, the sums insured will be doubled.

What is not insured?

This cover does not provide insurance in the following cases

  • Accidents that occur during participation in extreme outdoor activities, including base jumping, heli-skiing and wreck diving
  • Participation in paid or profitable sports, including training for such sports

Additional protection abroad

If, as a vulnerable road user, you are the victim of a collision in Belgium involving a motor vehicle, you will be entitled to a higher level of compensation. This does not apply outside of Belgium. However, KBC will supplement the compensation you receive for permanent disability or death up to the level that is customary in Belgium. This additional protection also applies if, as the driver of the motor vehicle concerned, you are not liable for the collision.

The additional protection provides cover of up to 250,000 euros per insured person.

If you choose the VIP option, the sums insured will be doubled.

Travel disputes cover

What is it?

What is insured?

  • Disputes with tour operators, rental companies, repair companies and other service providers
  • Problems involving police and government authorities outside Belgium

If you use our legal assistance services, we will always aim to reach an amicable settlement where possible. We will support you both during the court proceedings and out of court, for instance, through the travel disputes committee.

We provide compensation of up to 50,000 euros per claim for all of the insured persons combined. We don’t charge for our own management fees.

What is not insured?

  • Disputes between individual insured persons
  • Travel for medical purposes and scheduled medical treatment outside Belgium and the potential resulting complications/additional treatment required in Belgium
