Protection when travelling

Mastercard PLatinum

If you are a frequent traveller our Platinum Credit Card could be ideal for you. It comes with travel cancellation insurance cover. It also gives you flight delay, lost baggage and hire car excess cover.

Travel cancellation insurance

This insurance covers you against cancellation and/or early-return costs relating to any personal trips that you pay for using a KBC payment method for up to 10.000 euros per claim. Most important exclusion is cancellations and/or early returns as a result of medical disorders or injuries that already existed when the trip was booked.

Flight delay insurance

If your flight is delayed by more than four hours, this insurance covers you for expenses incurred for food and drink or additional overnight accommodation for up to 150 euros per person. It does not apply if equivalent alternative transport was available or if the delay was due to a protest, strike, or trade union action.

Lost baggage insurance

If your baggage has gone missing when you arrive, this insurance covers you for expenses incurred for urgent purchases of necessary replacement clothing and toiletry articles. You will be entitled, depending on the situation, to compensation of between 250 euros and 750 euros. It does not apply, for instance, if you failed to collect your baggage, or checked it in too late.

Hire car excess insurance

If the car you hired abroad has been damaged or stolen,  this insurance repays you the excess that the rental company's car insurer charges you. It does not apply, for instance, to trailers or if a negative travel advice was applicable at the start of your trip.

Extra protection for what you buy on your card

Extended guarantee and purchase protection

If you buy an expensive jumper and accidentally tear the sleeve a week later on a door handle or your dishwasher, TV or power drill suddenly gives up the ghost after three years, this cover adds a further two years to the two-year warranty required by law. What’s more, your purchases are protected against accidental damage and aggravated theft (involving violence or forced entry) for up to 90 days after purchase. Most important exclusions are damage you have caused intentionally or ordinary wear and tear.

Online purchase protection

Mastercard Platinum online purchase protection

This insurance provides you with protection for online purchases from an online retailer (from the EU or US). If the new refrigerator that you purchased online was damaged upon delivery or was not the item you ordered we will make sure that you get your money back if the supplier refuses to accept responsibility. Most important exclusions are aesthetic damage (scratches, dents) or damage you have caused intentionally.

Cancellation insurance for your admission tickets

If your buy tickets to a sporting event or concert, but are unexpectedly sick, this insurance repays you the unused tickets for up to 500 euros. It does not apply, for instance, to tickets that can be exchanged, or to season tickets.

Get the highest spending limit

The standard spending limit is set at 7,500 euros and we can always discuss any higher limit you might feel the need for.

Spread your repayments over time

You can stagger repayment of what you spend on your credit card thanks to the KBC Flex Budget facility linked to your KBC Platinum Credit Card. This extra cash reserve can be repaid at your own pace. In exchange for a certain rate of interest, you choose how much you pay off every month.
