How and when you receive your prepaid card and PIN once you've applied for it

Online application

You receive your card around five business days later by post. Once you've received your card, you can request your PIN by text message. For security reasons, we'll only send this PIN to the mobile number you specified in your application. Delete the text containing your PIN as soon as you can to prevent it from being misused. You can change your PIN at any KBC ATM. If you haven't requested your PIN in time or your request failed, just drop by your branch to obtain one. 

Application through your branch

You can opt to receive your card by post or have it sent to your branch for collection there.

  • By post: see 'Online application' instructions.
  • Through your branch: you'll be notified when you can come and collect your card. You activate your card by setting a PIN for it at one of our ATMs

Sign the back of your card immediately using a ballpoint pen.

Loading your prepaid card

You can load your card

  • using the quick-load facility in our KBC Touch and KBC Mobile apps
  • by credit transfer

Others can also load your card by credit transfer. The account number and standard-format reference for this is at the bottom of the back of your prepaid card. The maximum balance permitted on our prepaid cards is 5,000 euros. The amount you load at any one time cannot exceed 1,250 euros.

Unloading your prepaid card

You can unload your prepaid card at your KBC-Bank branch.

Withdrawing cash with your prepaid card

You can use your card to withdraw cash at MasterCard-accepting ATMs (withdrawals of up to 620 euros in total in cash over each four-day period).

Situations where you can't pay by prepaid card

You can only pay for something using your prepaid card if there's

  1. enough money on it
    and
  2. your card balance can be verified online and in real time

This is why you can't use your prepaid card to pay at:

  • toll plazas
  • car parking facilities
  • vending machines
  • tax-free shops
  • in-flight shopping services
 

Paying at filling stations with your prepaid card

If you want to be able to use your prepaid card to pay outside at the pump for refuelling at a filling station, you’ll need to make sure that there’s at least 125 euros on your card. This is usually the amount filling station owners hold as a reserve on your card (though it can be more than that). It comes off the available balance on your card even before you've finished filling up and the exact amount is known. The actual cost of your fill-up will be charged to your card a couple of days afterwards, when the reserve on your card is released.

If you forget your prepaid card PIN

Contact your KBC-Bank branch. Our staff there will help you:

  • set a new PIN at one of our ATMs or
  • arrange for a new one to be posted to your home address

If your prepaid card is frozen or defective

Contact your branch or your KBC Team. Our staff there will check the card and – if necessary – ensure that it is replaced as quickly as possible.

If your prepaid card is stolen, lost or retained by an ATM
