KBC connects and makes a difference

To enhance the positive impact we have on society, we have defined five focus areas in which we can create added value and respond to the real needs of society. We aim to create this added value by developing innovative solutions in areas where a bank-insurer can really make a difference. As a Team Blue member, you can help make a difference on several fronts, a few of which are highlighted below.

KBC is deeply compassionate towards the underprivileged fellow human beings in the Global South. As a bank-insurer, we translate this compassion into commitment, by supporting microfinance and microinsurance projects. Our efforts are pooled in the partnership with development organisation BRS.

Kom op tegen Kanker

Cancer has a huge impact on people’s lives – Kom op tegen Kanker offers hope. KBC and cancer charity ‘Kom op tegen Kanker’ (‘Let’s Beat Cancer Together’) have been working together for more than 30 years. Team Blue is also deeply committed to this partnership. Every year, our employees commit themselves wholeheartedly to the 1000-km and 100-km run, or buy an azalea, a cap or a lantern, for instance, to help realise Kom op tegen Kanker’s greatest dream: a world without cancer.

De Warmste Week

KBC is the exclusive lead partner of ‘De Warmste Week’ (‘The Warmest Week’) and that’s something we’re tremendously proud of! As a local bank-insurer, we feel it is only right to support such wonderful initiatives like this and are excited to make our extensive network available for this purpose.

Get a Teacher

Financial education: Enhancing financial literacy among young people is a key focus area for KBC. As part of our efforts in this area, we launched ‘Get a teacher’; a teaching pack for secondary schools and higher education aimed at helping young people understand the world of finance and, by extension, their own financial situation. Ultimately, our aim is to foster healthy financial habits. The classes are taught by KBC volunteers who want to share their expertise outside their regular workplace. The level of interest from the education sector is on the rise and continues to increase year after year.

Urban projects

KBC engages with social organisations who are committed to empowering underprivileged and vulnerable people. We focus on programmes that provide training, competence-building and employment opportunities, as well as on the circular economy, mobility, the environment and social cohesion. Non-profit organisation PEP! helps young people from disadvantaged groups to learn and grow based on their interests, skills and talents. This summer, PEP! is taking a group of young people on a tour to a number of companies for a summer class on technology and innovation. They were warmly welcomed by KBC’s Surf Studio.

  • Cycling school: helping young asylum seekers cycle safely.
Mobiel 21 contacted KBC to get funding for a bicycle project for young people living in a reception centre. KBC developed a custom learning pack to help them learn and apply traffic rules and encourage safe cycling. We also arranged for the purchase of additional bikes and bike repair tool sets to upgrade the existing bicycle fleet at the Fedasil centre.
