General information

What is Private Lease?

Private Lease is a long-term car rental option for private individuals. The leasing period for new cars is 47 months; i.e., just under four years. A shorter period applies for used cars.

Why is the leasing period 47 months? All cars are subject to inspection after four years (= 48 months). By setting the leasing period to 47 months, you won’t need to worry about the inspection, because we’ll take care of it after you’ve returned the car.

For a fixed monthly fee, you will get a fully equipped car and service pack. Virtually everything is included, such as maintenance, vehicle assistance, car insurance and repairs. All you have to do is purchase fuel.

What are the benefits of Private Lease?

Private Lease ensures a safe and smooth driving experience for a fixed monthly fee.

Will I own the car?

Operational lease is a form of rental agreement, which means you will not become the owner of the lease car and you will not be given the option to purchase the lease car at the end of the leasing period. The lease car will be registered in the name of KBC Autolease.

Application process

Do I have to be or become a KBC client to be eligible for Private Lease?

Yes, and you also require access to our KBC Touch or KBC Mobile app. Note that you must have been a KBC client for at least six months to be eligible to apply for Private Lease.

Can I also arrange my Private Lease application at a KBC branch?

No, you can only apply for Private Lease using our KBC Touch and KBC Mobile apps. If you require further information or prefer personal contact, our KBC Live team will gladly answer any questions you have.

How does KBC determine whether I’m eligible for Private Lease?

Once we have received your application, we will investigate whether you have sufficient financial resources for Private Lease.

We will inform you of the outcome through KBC Touch or KBC Mobile. If you are eligible for Private Lease, we will ask you to upload the relevant documents to further process your application.

In some cases, no further documents are required and you will see almost instantly if your application has been approved.

If you’re married, we’ll take both partners into account. And if you’re living together with someone, you can choose to take out the lease by yourself or with your partner

Can I apply for Private Lease even though I don’t have a permanent contract?

Yes. Anyone can apply for Private Lease. We will check your age (i.e., whether you’re an adult), and whether you have sufficient financial resources and a valid driver’s licence. Based on these criteria, we will determine whether you can enter into a lease contract.

Is there a minimum or maximum age for acceptance for Private Lease?

Yes. The minimum age is 18, and the maximum age is 71. You are always required to have a valid driver’s licence. A provisional driver’s licence is also permitted, provided you adhere to the applicable restrictions.

Ordering and delivery

How do I apply for a Private Lease car?

In KBC Touch or KBC Mobile, select Private Lease from the ‘Vehicle’ tab, where you can create your own lease car based on your preferences and give as accurate an estimate as possible of the number of kilometres you expect to drive each year.

In a subsequent step, you’ll be asked to enter your personal details and then you’ll be ready to submit your application. The application is without any obligation and does not require you to enter into the lease contact. You can sign the final contract proposal electronically in KBC Touch or KBC Mobile.

Can I add any optional features?

No, you cannot.

Can I choose the gearbox type?

Yes. The range of cars includes models with manual and automatic gearboxes. If a certain model comes with either type of gearbox, you can choose the one you prefer.

Does the lease car come with all-season or winter tyres?

Winter tyres are not offered as an option, but you can opt for all-season tyres. If your car is equipped with all-season tyres, you can drive year-round, even in most winter sports areas.

How long does it take for the car to be delivered?

We will place the order with the manufacturer or importer of the car you selected as soon as your application has been approved electronically and we have received all the required documents. The delivery time is different for each car; some can be delivered from stock and will be available sooner than others.

If you selected a used car, it will be delivered in a matter of days. We will send you a message through KBC Touch or KBC Mobile as soon as the number plate has been sent to the dealer. You can then make an appointment to collect the car in Londerzeel.

Can I choose which dealer delivers the car?

Yes, you can select a dealer from the list of official dealers, which you’ll find under the options in the app.

Should I collect the car from the dealer myself?

Yes, you can contact the dealer to arrange the collection as soon as they’ve received the number plate. On collecting the car, the dealer can explain some of the key features and give you a few useful tips.

The lease contract

Where can I find the general conditions?

What is the maximum permitted monthly mileage?

During the application process, you can specify the number of kilometres you expect to drive each year. We will send you a message through KBC Touch or KBC Mobile asking you to submit the mileage to us each year, based on which we will draw up a mileage statement.

If the actual mileage exceeds the estimate, we will bill you for the difference. If the actual mileage is less than the estimate, the difference will be credited to your account. This only applies if the difference is more than 10%.

Is there a cooling-off period?

Yes. You are entitled to change your mind about signing your lease contract during a period of 14 calendar days after signing the lease contract (electronically or in print).

You can use the model form to cancel your order, but this is optional.

How long can I use the car?

The leasing period for new cars is 47 months. Varying leasing periods apply for used cars. The contractual number of months is specified in the Special Conditions of your car.

Note that once you’ve reached the maximum mileage, the lease contract will be terminated prematurely (even if the agreed leasing period has not yet expired). The maximum mileage is 180,000 km for all non-electric cars, and 100,000 km for electric cars.

Is fuel included in the lease?

No, you are responsible for purchasing fuel.

Can I travel abroad with the car?

Yes, you can travel abroad with your lease car for a business trip or holiday, but only in those countries where the insurance certificate for Third-Party Liability is valid. These countries are listed on the certificate of insurance (the ‘green card’).

Are other drivers allowed to use the car?

Yes, all drivers with a valid driver’s licence are permitted to use the car.

Are pets allowed in the car?

Yes, but you will be charged in the event of any damage to the car’s interior.

Can I have the car fitted with winter tyres?

During the application process, you can opt for all-season tyres. If you selected summer tyres, you can have the car fitted with winter tyres at your own expense, in which case the car must be returned with the original summer tyres at the end of the lease.

Can I terminate my contract prior to the expiry date?

Yes – this is subject to an early termination fee. In the event that you terminate your contract, we will also settle the mileage and any additional costs if the car is damaged.

What types of cover are included?

  • Third-party liability insurance for motor vehicles
    If you want to drive your car on public roads, you are required to take out Third-Party Liability insurance (TPL). This insurance covers any loss, damage or injury you cause to others if you are at fault, and is valid in Belgium and all the countries listed on the certificate of insurance (the ‘green card’).

  • Legal assistance
    We provide legal assistance insurance as a supplement to our third-party liability insurance for motor vehicles. This cover provides for your criminal and civil defence, for example to recover the damage to your car from the person liable.

  • Risk arrangement
    KBC Autolease assumes the risks of the car being completely written off and of a partial loss (such as due to theft, your own negligence, storm damage or glass breakage).

  • Client's Own Risk
    For the claim events listed under ‘Risk arrangement’ in the General Conditions, KBC Autolease stipulates a deductible or ‘Client’s Own Risk’, the amount of which is specified in the ‘Special Conditions’.

What if I receive a fine?

You are responsible for paying all fines (including municipal administrative sanctions) and parking tickets. They will be sent directly to your home address.

End of contract

What happens at the end of my lease contract?

You will be notified to return your car a few months before expiry of the contract, and again a few weeks from the expiry date.

You must return the car in a proper and neat condition. You will be contacted by a KBC Private Lease employee prior to the expiry date to schedule an appointment for the assessment and collection of your car.

Can I purchase the car on expiry of the contract?

No, you cannot.

Will I receive a no-claims certificate?

What costs are involved?

The price of the car depends on the model and optional features you select, such as the annual mileage and type of tyres.

What is included in the lease price?

  • The rent of the lease car

How do I pay for my Private Lease?

By direct debit (SEPA mandate). You will be asked to specify the KBC account number you want to use during the application process.

Is a security or advance payment required?


What if my direct debit is unsuccessful?

We will make three attempts to process the payment. If the direct debit is still unsuccessful, you will be contacted by a KBC Private Lease employee.

Other questions

I’m self-employed – am I also eligible for Private Lease?

No, Private Lease is intended exclusively for private individuals. We have a separate car leasing arrangement for business owners.

I have a lease car, but would prefer a different model – can I trade my car?

No, you cannot return your current car and we will not pay any trade-in value.

Which cars can I lease?

You can choose from a number of new and used cars; our selection changes regularly. We focus on ‘green’ cars, such as hybrid, plug-in hybrid and even electric cars. In exceptional cases, a diesel car will be included in the range.

How do I select my lease car?

Using KBC Touch or KBC Mobile, where you can also select the colour and gearbox type, and whether you want the car fitted with a tow bar. Please note that varying delivery times apply depending on the type of car.

What features are the cars equipped with?

With features such as air conditioning, navigation system, parking sensors and cruise control. There are also special packages available offering certain optional features at an attractive rate. 

Are the cars always new?

Most cars are brand new, but some cars in our range are young used cars, which you can find under the ‘Nearly new vehicles’ tab.

I am a non-Belgian living in Belgium – am I eligible for Private Lease?

Certainly – provided you officially reside in Belgium.

I have a provisional driver’s licence – am I eligible for Private Lease?

A provisional driver’s licence is a valid driver’s licence. If your income and expenses show that you have sufficient financial resources to lease a car, you can enter into a lease contract.

Can a holder of a provisional driver’s licence drive the car?

Yes – a provisional driver’s licence is a valid driver’s licence. Note that certain restrictions apply to drivers with a provisional driver’s licence.

Can I smoke in my lease car?

No, smoking is prohibited in the lease car. 

Will the car be fully filled up with fuel on delivery?

When you collect your car, there will be a minimal amount of fuel in the tank, so you will need to refuel the car immediately after picking it up. 

Can I get a fuel card from KBC Private Lease?

No, we do not provide fuel cards.

Can I take out a lease contract without direct debit?

No – direct debit is the required payment method.

Do I have a benefit in kind?

No – Private Lease is a form of leasing intended for private individuals which you pay to KBC Autolease.

Why is the leasing period set to 47 months?

With Private Lease, everything is taken care of for you. All cars are subject to inspection after 4 years (= 48 months). By setting the leasing period to 47 months, you won’t need to worry about the inspection, because we’ll take care of it after you’ve returned the car. 

Can I take out multiple lease contracts in the same name?

Yes. If your income and expenses show that you have sufficient financial resources to lease another car, you can enter into an additional lease contract.

Can I take out my own insurance for my lease car?

No. You will be insured under the group insurance policy taken out by KBC Autolease. 

Is driver accident insurance or bodily injury insurance included?

No. Third-party liability insurance (TPL) is included, but this does not cover bodily injuries you sustained in an accident you caused.

Your third-party liability insurance only covers material damage and bodily injury sustained by the other party and your passengers. However, you can take out separate bodily injury insurance if you haven’t already.

How much is the deductible?

The deductible is 250 euros per claim.

How does the billing process work?

You receive your first invoice for the lease fee immediately after delivery of your lease car.

For all subsequent invoices for the lease fee, you choose the monthly payment date just once. You receive the invoice in Doccle or your KBC inbox each month, 14 days prior to your chosen payment date. The invoice amount is presented for payment and paid via the SEPA mandate on the payment date.

When am I required to submit my annual mileage?

After a full year of driving your Private Lease car, you will receive a notification prompting you to submit your annual mileage.

You will receive this message in the KBC Touch or KBC Mobile app, which you can also use to submit your mileage.
