What does this job entail?

International politics and regulations have a significant impact on KBC’s business and that of our clients. This impact is not always visible to the outside world, but it is very real. As a Senior Compliance Advisor (Financial Crime), this is your area of expertise.
Conflict zones, totalitarian regimes, and terrorism financing lead to financial and trade embargoes. The international community — through the UN, OFAC (US), OFSI (UK), the EU, and Belgium — responds with increasingly complex embargo regulations. You translate these into workable policies and concrete guidelines for KBC.
In addition, as a Senior Compliance Policy Advisor, you play a key role in the fight against money laundering and fraudulent financial flows.
You combine two roles: on the one hand, you implement rules, provide advice and training, and raise compliance awareness. On the other hand, you perform a control function to ensure that the rules are effectively followed.
In short: you combine strategic insight with practical action. You ensure that KBC remains compliant in a rapidly changing world, thereby protecting the integrity of our organization and our clients.

What do we expect from you?

  • You monitor (inter)national laws and regulations regarding embargoes, anti-money laundering, and counter-terrorism financing.
  • You translate laws and regulations into procedures and training. In doing so, you contribute to the Group Compliance Rules and play an active role in our product process.
  • You advise colleagues in central services, branches, and our foreign subsidiaries or other local compliance departments.
  • In projects, you ensure that applicable regulations are followed and that the projects align with KBC’s strategy and risk appetite.
  • You share information and knowledge about financial crime and provide training.

Your key strengths?

Confident businesswoman working on laptop at her workplace at modern office.Blurred background.
  • You have at least 5 years of experience in compliance, audit, operational risk, and/or another risk-related function.
  • In-depth knowledge and experience with regulations on the prevention of financial crime, such as sanctions, embargoes, money laundering, and tax fraud. You are also interested in ethics and professional conduct.
  • Preferably, you hold a master’s degree in law, economics, or criminology.
  • Your analytical skills help you understand complex matters and find pragmatic solutions.
  • You enjoy working constructively with colleagues from various departments, while maintaining your independence.
  • You adapt easily to changing situations and can bring others along with you.
  • You communicate clearly and effectively. When you explain guidelines, everyone understands them.
  • You do this effortlessly in Dutch and English. If you can also do so in French, that’s a plus.

What can we offer you?

  • We place great importance on compliance and set high standards. Together with your colleagues, you work for KBC Bank, KBC Insurance, and other KBC Group entities. Your impact is real.
  • In addition to on-the-job learning, we invest in you with an exceptional range of training and development opportunities. You are encouraged to grow both personally and professionally.
  • You receive a permanent contract and a competitive salary, along with a wide range of fringe benefits.
  • Our headquarters are easily accessible by public transport. You can also work from home part of the time, if you wish.
  • Thanks to flexible working hours, you can balance your work and private life.

Can you help us make the difference?

Joining KBC Group’s Embargo Compliance Team in 2023 has meant taking a front seat in watching geopolitical events unfold. Russia’s invasion into Ukraine has seen the EU, US and UK impose unprecedented and continuously evolving sanctions measures. Meanwhile, various other conflicts around the world continue to trigger regulatory action by other nations. A heavy burden rests on the shoulders of financial institutions to assure maximum compliance with all these applicable sanctions regimes. KBC Group, with its global footprint spanning a presence from New York to Shanghai, has turned out to be one of the most exciting places to work in this fast-pacing landscape. The opportunity to keep a global perspective from within a small and supportive team means that there’s never a dull day at the office.
