All of us at KBC learning together
We’re often told these days that we’re living in a rapidly changing world with all sorts of challenges. But what does it all mean in concrete terms for KBC staff and for our organisation? And how are we responding?
We’re squarely facing the challenge
The market is characterised right now by intense competition, short innovation cycles and growing, data-driven automation. It’s getting harder all the time to differentiate yourself as an organisation.
To keep moving forward in this climate, we have to focus on our clients more than ever, firmly commit to technology and build the resilience of our staff and our organisation.
The right person in the right place. Shaping the future with our own staff wherever possible. Lasting employability: these are our ambitions.
Patrick Tans, General Manager Banking Products & Transform, explains: ‘Banking is evolving. If we want to be able to keep up, we have to evolve too. That means achieving the right level of knowledge and skills in various disciplines and domains. In terms of both professional content and behaviour. Some of these domains are new ones, like data. Others, such as effective cooperation, are as old as the hills. Maintaining and adding to our knowledge is something we all have to do at every level of the organisation.’

With clear targets
Each department at KBC has a list of four key skills it wants every team member to have in their locker. Skills like data literacy, constant process improvement and collaborative working. Not everyone needs to develop them to the very highest level. For some skills it’s enough to achieve a basic level.
Our objective in the short term is for everyone to meet the basic level for each skill. In the longer term, we want to be an organisation where continuing to learn is the most natural thing in the world.
