Can I fit better-insulating glass in my current window frames?
If the glass in your windows needs to be replaced, it might also be time to replace the window frames. But what if you don’t have the budget for that right now? Is it possible to only upgrade the glass in the existing window frames? Read this article and find out.
If you’re thinking about switching to glass with better insulating properties, it’s advisable to also replace your window frames with ones that provide better insulation thanks to improved gap sealing and multi-point locks. This is definitely worth considering if your window frames need replacing within ten years. If you don’t have the budget for this, you can keep the existing frames if:
- The frames are in good condition
- The frames are strong enough to support the weight of the new glass
- The frames are sufficiently sealed
- The frames are thick enough (after the grooves have been routed, if applicable)
- The hinges are strong enough to support the weight of the new glass
