Building a more sustainable society together

Building a more sustainable society together

When you have more than 4 million customers in Belgium – and as many as over 13 million group-wide – the choices you make have an impact on society. This is something we’re very aware of at KBC and the reason we’ve developed a robust approach to sustainability.

  • We limit our negative impact by making strict choices.
  • We increase our positive impact, particularly by focusing on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) where we can make the greatest difference as a bank-insurer.
  • We enforce a clear code of conduct and encourage responsible behaviour among all our employees.

In 2025, we continued our focus on innovation, going greener and connecting people. A concise overview of the approach we adopt in Belgium is provided in our Report to Society. A comprehensive report of our group-wide approach is provided in our Sustainability Report (in English only).

KBC innovates and helps others innovate

  • KBC is a driving force behind our economy: in 2025, we invested 90% of Belgian customers' savings back into the economy.
  • In its capacity as accelerator, Start
    it @KBC
supported 183 new start-ups in Belgium in 2025. Over a period of 12 years, it has created more than 11 735 jobs in our country.
  • In 2025, the Sia Partners research agency again named KBC Mobile the best mobile banking app in the
world. In addition, KBC focuses on personal contact – our customers are welcome in 424 bank branches and 269 insurance agencies, or at KBC Live where 564 staff are just a phone or video call away. In 2025, the familiar blue KBC Belmobiel also made 5 573 home visits.

KBC goes greener and helps others go greener too

At KBC, we are constantly working to reduce our own environmental footprint – over the past 10 years, we have reduced our impact by 70%. We structurally limit our energy consumption and opt for renewable resources wherever we can (our electricity is now 100% renewable).

However, our activities as a bank-insurer have a much greater impact – in fact, as much as 1 000 times greater. That’s why we support our customers in their transition to sustainability.

A few of KBC group’s achievements:

  • We have set climate goals for sectors with the greatest impact on climate (energy, real estate, transport and agriculture).

More information on these goals can be found on pages 22 and 23 of the Report to Society.

  • In 2025, we provided 34 billion euros in loans to help individuals and companies go greener.

A selection of KBC’s achievements relatingto individuals and companies in Belgium:

  • We offer more than just traditional banking and insurance services when it comes to supporting our customers. For instance, MyHome in the KBC Mobile app offers a wide range of products and services to help them make their homes more sustainable (ranging from insulation to charge points).
  • We also encourage sustainable mobility through KBC Mobile. For example, our customers used KBC Mobile to buy more than 2.7 million bus and train tickets from De Lijn and SNCB in 2025. In 2025, 11 000 employees of Belgian companies used a new bike leased from KBC Autolease.
  • In 2025, KBC provided 7.4 billion euros in loans to help individuals and companies go greener.
  • For companies, we suggest working with our subsidiary ecoWise or our partner Encon. In 2025, ecoWise assisted 541 medium-sized enterprises in their efforts to go green. Encon advised more than 108 companies on energy efficiency, renewable energy, EV charging infrastructure, sustainable real estate and reducing their environmental footprint.

KBC connects and helps others connect

At KBC, connecting people is a guiding principle for us and underpins our aim to help create a society in which everyone counts.

  •  KBC currently insures 1 060 educational institutions, 1 473 childcare facilities, 1 071 residential and care centres and 52 hospitals in Belgium.
  • We also provide finance to 712 educational institutions, 271 childcare facilities, 531 residential and care centres and 114 hospitals.
  • As bank-insurer, we aim to empower people in their financial decisions. Through the Get-a-Teacher pack, secondary schools, colleges and universities can invite a KBC trainer free of charge. Some 108 238 students have received lessons in financial literacy since this initiative was launched in 2017.
  • KBC has partnered the ‘Kom op tegen Kanker’ and ‘De Warmste Week’ charities for many years now and supported numerous smaller community projects.
