Bankswitching: where to start?
Bankswitching is a free-to-use service for moving your accounts from one bank to another. By this we mean transferring the balance and your fixed standing orders, and more besides. You can make a request to change banks using this Bankswitching form or you can do it entirely online using KBC Mobile if you’re switching to KBC.
This page sets out what you can move, how to fill in the Bankswitching form and how to switch banks in KBC Mobile.
What can you move with Bankswitching?
The Bankswitching service lets you:
- Transfer the balance from your existing account to your new account
- Transfer payment orders and direct debit orders to your new account
- Notify those making payments to your account (such as your employer)
- Close your current account without having to go in person to your old bank
How to use bankswitching?
1. Using the Bankswitching form
You can fill in and sign the request form to switch banks and move current accounts, or the request form to switch banks and move savings accounts, and then send it to your new bank.
You can switch to KBC in the following ways:
- e-mail the form to bankswitching@kbc.be
- send the form via a message in KBC Mobile or KBC Touch
- e-mail or post the form to a KBC Bank branch near you
- hand over the form to a member of staff at a KBC Bank branch near you
2. Using KBC Mobile
You can switch to KBC without having to fill in the form by quickly and easily submitting your request in KBC Mobile.
All you have to do is:
- Download KBC Mobile, register and open a new account (if you haven't done so already)
- Tap ‘Offer’ at the bottom of your screen and then ‘Accounts’
- Tap ‘Move your accounts to KBC for free’
- Alternatively, just ask Kate to start your bank switch (everything will be arranged in just a few steps)
Moving a savings account with Bankswitching
If you hold a savings account in addition to a current account at your old bank, you have 2 options:
- You can move the balance of both accounts to your new current account by first making a request to switch your current account and then a request to switch your savings account. In both cases, you should specify the number of your new current account as the new account.
- You can open a new savings account (for free at KBC) in addition to your new current account. You can then move the balance of your savings account at your old bank in the same way to your new savings account at KBC.
