FAQs
How do I know if I have single or double glazing?
There are a few simple ways to check what kind of glass you have. If you hold your phone's torch 5 to 10 centimetres in front of the window, the light should appear four times in the reflection. If the lights are all the same colour, you have double glazing.
You can also examine the window frame and check for an aluminium strip separating the glass sheets. If you don’t see one, you have single glazing.
What can you save by installing high-efficiency glass?
We all know that double glazing is better than single glazing, but did you know that high-efficiency glass insulates up to three times more effectively than double glazing? That’s because:
- A thin layer of metal on the inside of the inner glass provides additional insulation
- The space between the two glass panes is filled with an inert gas that insulates better than ordinary air
If you replace single glazing with high-efficiency glass, you will save an average of 44 euros per square metre per year. When replacing double glazing, that figure comes to 22 euros per square metre per year.
How can I pay for new windows?
Installing new windows with high-efficiency glass will save money on your energy bills, but it’s still a significant outlay. You can apply for an energy loan at KBC to finance your project. Find out more.

What are the benefits of high-efficiency glass?
This type of glass provides double or triple the insulation of standard double glazing and is four to five times more effective than single glazing. This means it has a big impact on your energy bill, but that's not the only benefit. High-efficiency glass is made of a sturdy material that will make your windows last longer, and it also blocks heat from outside in summer, keeping your home cooler.
