Paying by direct debit means choosing convenience. Your invoices are collected directly without you having to think about their due dates.
What are direct debits?
You give a company your approval to collect their invoice directly from KBC and to withdraw the amount from your account. This is particularly convenient for regular invoices, such as your monthly phone bill.
- Automatic and on time: you give your approval to the creditor just once, and from then on everything happens automatically. This lets you avoid reminder fees for forgotten invoices.
- International payments: your subscription to that foreign magazine, your gas bill for your house in Spain... these things can all be easily paid for via direct debit as well. Direct debits are possible for all countries within SEPA*.
- Refuse or block payment: you can refuse or block a payment or request reimbursement within a specific period.
- Specify a maximum amount or frequency: as a consumer, you have a number of rights. This allows you to specify a maximum amount or frequency to your bank.
*The European Union is working on a harmonised European market for payments (the Single Euro Payments Area, or SEPA). SEPA consists of the European Union and Norway, Liechtenstein, Iceland, Monaco, San Marino and Switzerland.
How do I set up, change or cancel a direct debit?
It used to be that your bank would manage direct debits, but that is no longer the case. Direct debits are now managed by the creditor. That means you can no longer set up, change or cancel direct debits via your bank. To do these things, you must contact the creditor directly.
How do I refuse a direct debit?
As a consumer, you have the option of revoking a payment or requesting reimbursement:
- Revoke: the direct debit can be viewed in KBC Touch a few days before it is collected. You can now revoke the payment and it will not be carried out.
- Request reimbursement: you can request reimbursement up to 8 weeks after collection. This is possible via KBC Touch or in your branch, but will of course result in an outstanding debt towards your creditor.
How do I block a direct debit?
Blocking can be done on a number of different levels:
- From the account (via your KBC branch)
- From the creditor (via your KBC branch)
- From the mandate (via KBC Touch)
You can undo the block at any time.

What happens if there is not enough money in my account?
If there is not enough money in your account on the due date of the direct debit, we will inform you by text message. You can then add money to your account so that the direct debit can be executed.
